Oh, Christmas Tree

Well, it's that time of year again...my favorite time of year.  That doesn't mean i love winter...it means i freakin' love christmas.  In my family, it never centered around religion or even gifts really.  It was all about getting as many people together for two days to dance, laugh, share stories, and of course...the baked goods.  Food is always the main part for us.  We have many family members that live all over the country, and we all do our best to come together. I look forward to this Holiday more than any other because I know I'll get to see family and friends that I miss the most.

My husband, Ramo, celebrated Christmas for the first time back in '03 with me, and he wasn't a huge fan before that.  His family is Muslim, and he always thought of Christmas as a way for department stores to make bank..a marketing scheme..which i suppose it is.  I suppose that is why I purposely avoid spending too much during this time on merchandise..to not lose the point of why i love it so much.

This Holiday, and my refusal to ever stop celebrating it, has unfortunately created a large rift between myself and my mother-in-law.  She, following the way of her religion, has had many issues with her only grandson (my son, Zayde) celebrating with my family.  Despite my many attempts to explain the lack of religious purpose behind my desire to keep on with the x-mas tree, lights, parties, and presents...she still persists with her anger towards it.    Her and my husband have been in a recent heated argument over this exact situation.

Before i married Ramo, I wondered often how future differences would play out.  I support my son and husband 100% when Muslim holidays come around, and I even love to celebrate with them...I suppose it's only natural for me to expect the same from her.  I always believed that a person has every right to their own opinions and beliefs, and every right to voice them as well.  But, I have also believed in my life that once they are voiced, you continue to support and love those that are close.

After these issues, my love for the holidays are stronger than ever, and of course..have grabbed some cute, funny and beautiful x-mas inspired pieces to share. Have fun :)
